GCSE RESULTS 25.08.11

We are on the up and up!

Record-breaking GCSE results have been announced for Manchester’s Enterprise Academy students. With 36% achieving 5 or more GCSE passes at grades A*-C including English and Maths, these results represent an 8% increase on last year and mean the Academy meets, for the first time ever, the national standard for secondary education. The school also saw a 10% rise in its performance at the 5A*-C measure.

James Eldon, Manchester Enterprise Academy’s new Principal, said: "Even in a difficult year with a lot of upheaval, including moving into a new state of the art building and a number of staffing changes, I am so pleased to announce our record breaking GCSE results. I would like to congratulate all the students and staff who have worked so hard to achieve this success. However, the staff are not complacent and are striving to improve further. I am confident that our excellent facilities and teaching methods are having the right effect on students and this progress will accelerate further this year.

“Along with our key sponsors, we are committed to securing the best possible outcome for all of our students. This year's improved GCSE results are the product of hard work and dedication from both students and teachers and I know that I speak for the whole Academy when I wish the 'Class of 2011' the best of luck as they move onto to our rapidly expanding sixth-form, where we have recruited phenomenal numbers of pupils.”

MEA is the first of a new generation of secondary schools that offer a more flexible curriculum developing the creativity and leadership skills vital to being an entrepreneur and thriving in the new economy. Pupils at MEA also get the benefit of working with the fantastic sponsors allied to the Academy.

Manchester Airport is the major sponsor of the Academy, which provides 750 places for 11-16 year olds and post-16 provision for 120 students from 2010. As part of their sponsorship Manchester Airport provides specialist knowledge of business, tourism and travel to help enrich the curriculum. They also encourage students to get involved with work experience opportunities across the airport site to build upon key skills.
