MEA Loves Reading

There have been lots of studies about the benefits of reading for pleasure. Reading for pleasure improves your literacy skills, increases your vocabulary and gives you wider knowledge about the world around you.

As well as helping you at school, reading for pleasure also has lots of other benefits for young people, including: improving relationships with others, reductions in the symptoms of depression, and improved wellbeing. Reading for pleasure has social benefits and can improve our sense of connectedness to the wider community. It also increases our understanding of our own identity, improves empathy and gives us an insight into the world view of others.

During this time, when you are not able to attend school, we strongly recommend that you spend some time reading books or texts that you enjoy.

You don’t need to buy books to read them at home. Many websites and libraries have made books available completely free for you to listen to or download. Below is a list of websites we encourage you to use.
