Students with specific learning needs will be supported by the SEN team.

A bespoke Foundation Learning curriculum will be offered to students who are identified at transition as needing additional intervention. The ethos underpinning this work is small groups in a nurturing environment, with a focus on literacy and numeracy.

Curriculum maps, written by the SENCo, an outstanding English teacher, will ensure essential written literacy skills are developed in addition to improvements in reading. Progress of all SEN learners will be monitored carefully and a planned programme of targeted intervention by TAs will address issues as: fine motor skills, EAL support, extended learning club, 1-1 phonics and Lego therapy.

We advocate a ‘quality teaching first approach’ to raising the progress of vulnerable learners, working with a qualified teacher in smaller groups on a curriculum tailored to their needs. Our vulnerable learners need excellent teaching and they have to be in lessons to receive this.
