Japan Week

We had an amazing time celebrating Japan Week 2025. The 50th anniversary of this fantastic event, which showcases Japanese culture across Manchester, saw MEA welcome visitors who ran workshops on Japanese dance, kimonos, and ancient letter writing for our Year 8 students.

In the library, our students practised Japanese calligraphy, each writing their name in Japanese letters on cloth using brushes and gold ink. The results were beautiful and each student took home their piece of work. Then they tried on traditional kimonos and had a fantastic time learning about Japanese culture. The dance and drama department enjoyed sessions on Japanese dance and movement - we watched amazing demonstrations and then learnt some dances themselves.

The day was a fantastic way to learn about and celebrate Japanese culture, and we were so thrilled to welcome all our guests to MEA.
