British Values

Manchester Enterprise Academy is committed to serving its communities and recognises the multicultural, multi-faith and multi-ethnic nature of both our city and the United Kingdom. We celebrate the cultural diversity of our city and nation and aim to engender this appreciation across our academy, as we create a community of belonging and inclusion. Weare dedicated to preparing our students for their adult life beyond the formal, examined curriculum, as we know that good exam results alone are not enough to secure our students’ fantastic future and our approach to British Values supports this vision.

At Manchester Enterprise Academy, we value the diversity of backgrounds of all students, families and the wider school community that we serve. Our approach to British Values links together all aspects of our curriculum, including our Fantastic Futures and character curriculum, our tutor time and assembly provision and our formal academic curriculum, to ensure that students know, understand and model these values.

We also understand the vital role we have in ensuring that groups or individuals, within the academy, are not subjected to intimidation or radicalisation, by those wishing to unduly, or illegally, influence them, as we develop our students’ understanding of and resilience to these harms. This understanding is embedded across our provision, through safeguarding, pastoral care and our curriculum areas.

As set out in the equal opportunities guidance, we are dedicated to ensuring that there will be no discrimination against any individual or group, regardless of faith, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, political or financial status within the academy. This work is reflected in our personal development curriculum, academic curriculum and across all aspects of our provision, as we actively promote upstander behaviour.

We embolden our students to be creative, respectful, open-minded and independent individuals who are respectful of themselves and of others in our academy, our local community and the wider world – acting as ‘Community Citizens’.

British Values

British Values are the values which we all share as people who live in Britain

Mutual Respect

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and to have their voice heard and to be listed to – as long as they do not promote extremism or encourage violence, discrimination or harassment.

Individual Liberty

Everyone is free to think what they want and make choices, but they are responsible for their actions and choices.

The Rule of Law

The law applies to everyone equally, no matter who they are.

There are consequences for breaking the law.

We all have to take responsibility for our actions and have the responsibility to protect others.

Democracy

Everyone has a right to take part in democracy, to be heard and to help make decisions. For example, by electing their local MP or campaigning for laws to be changed.

Tolerance

We respect the values and beliefs of others and treat others with kindness.
