SMSC Assemblies and Form Time

Social Moral Spiritual Cultural
Social development through collaboration, leadership, and engagement in the school and wider community. Moral development by fostering a strong sense of right and wrong, upstander behaviour and responsibility. Spiritual development through opportunities for reflection, personal growth, and understanding of self and others. Cultural development by celebrating diversity, exploring heritage, and promoting mutual respect and understanding.
We are kind and respectful, working together as a community where everyone feels valued. We know what is right and wrong and make safe and responsible choices every day. We reflect on our own beliefs and values and show respectful understanding of other’s beliefs and values. We are ready to embrace difference, celebrating the diversity that makes us stronger as a community.

The MEA Assembly Programme

Our assembly programme is designed to promote belonging and build a positive year group and school culture, supporting our students' Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural (SMSC) development in an age-relevant and age-appropriate way, linked to our shared values of safe, respectful, ready and kind.

Assemblies at MEA are part of our personal development journey and focus on the following strands:

The MEA Way and Belonging

Expectations and Learning Behaviours

Rewards and Recognition

SMSC, Character, British Values and Citizenship

Careers Education

Each year group has one assembly a week, linked to the strands above, alongside international, national and local events.

The MEA KS3 Form Time Programme

Our SMSC Form Time Programme is designed to promote belonging and build a positive year group and school culture, supporting our students' SMSC development in an age-relevant and age-appropriate way, linked to our shared values of safe, respectful, ready and kind. The SMSC programme supports both our Fantastic Futures and Character Curriculum and is designed to complement our assembly programme. SMSC PowerPoints explore the key SMSC focus outlined below. Each SMSC session makes explicit links to the MEA Way and ends with an exploration of relevant current events.

Signposting and Safeguarding

We provide a rich programme of visits, workshops, and enrichment opportunities that play a vital role in supporting our students’ personal development.

These are carefully planned experiences complement and extend our curriculum, helping students to build cultural capital and make meaningful connections between their learning and the wider world.

This is a core element of our personal development offer and reflects our commitment to nurturing well-rounded, informed, community citizens.

Below are just some of the annual experiences provided to students. You can also read about many of these visits and experiences in our half-termly newsletters.
